What are crowns and bridges?

Crowns and bridges are a prosthetic duo designed to restore teeth. Crowns cover and protect vulnerable teeth, and bridges fill the gap between missing teeth.

Crowns

Massood S. Nouri offers crowns to restore teeth that are broken, cracked, worn, brittle, permanently stained, or compromised by tooth decay.

He can place a crown on top of a vulnerable tooth. Sometimes, Massood S. Nouri offers crowns as a support for a dental bridge or as a dental implant cover.

Bridges

Typically partnered with crowns, bridges fix several oral issues associated with missing teeth.

Examples include:

  • The inability to chew properly
  • Trouble with speech and pronunciation
  • The shifting of your remaining teeth
  • Bad bites

Bridges also help maintain your facial structure.

What are crowns made of?

Massood S. Nouri designs, fabricates, and places dental crowns made from numerous materials, including metal, tooth-colored zirconia, and tooth-colored porcelain.

Metal

Metal crowns are extremely strong and durable. However, Smiles by Nouri typically reserves metal crowns for the back of the mouth, where they aren’t so visible.

Tooth-colored zirconia

The practice makes tooth-colored zirconia crowns from zirconium dioxide. Massood S. Nouri can custom shade-match them to your natural teeth.

Zirconia crowns are strong, durable, long-lasting, and biocompatible. That means that they’re less likely to irritate your body and trigger a response like inflammation.

Tooth-colored porcelain

As with zirconia crowns, Massood S. Nouri can custom design porcelain crowns to blend in with your smile. Massood S. Nouri chooses these aesthetically pleasing crowns to enhance and restore the health and function of visible teeth.

Massood S. Nouri determines the best crown material for you based on its size, location, function, and proximity to any dental bridges.

What types of bridges are available to me?

Smiles by Nouri offers three styles of dental bridges, which may be fixed (permanent) or removable:

Traditional bridges

Traditional bridges securely attach to surrounding crowns or to dental implants. To attach them, the practice uses a special dental cement.

Cantilever bridges

Cantilever bridges bond to just one prosthetic crown.

Maryland bonded bridges

Lastly, Maryland bonded bridges use a metal or porcelain framework that Massood S. Nouri bonds to the back of existing supporting teeth. The framework provides stabilization.
